UID also known as “Unique Identification” is an inventory management program the United States Department of Defense or US DOD now requires on certain tangible assets.
Pursuant to Mil-Std-130, the program requires manufacturers to include certain unique information on the asset. This can be obtained by either Direct Part Marking (DPM) or UID Tags. The preferred method of applying 2D UIDs is a type of Machine Readable Medium called a 2D Data Matrix ECC 200 Symbol, and requires a verification process to ensure the UID meets the MIL STD 130 requirements. Additionally, once a UID code has been created and placed on a product provided to the US DoD, that unique string also called a UII, must be entered into the IUID Registry. This registry is the single source of data tracking all assets meeting the minimum criteria that are sold to the US DoD.
UID Direct Part Marking
Accubeam’s capabilities include direct part marking of the UID 2D Data Matrix Codes on wide array of materials and surfaces. Accubeam’s unique and proprietary tooling processes provide extensive capabilities to mark large quantities and large bulky parts.
UID Tags
For applications where Direct Part Marking (DPM) is not feasible, using UID Tags is an effective and economical solution. Accubeam provides UID Tags that are anodized or powder coated to provide contrast that can be affixed directly to your parts. In some situations customers will have unique specifications and prefer to provide the tags for marking. In either case Accubeam can accommodate your needs.
UID Verification & Grading
Creating a mark is only the first step. It’s imperative that the 2D code be verified and graded to ensure readability and adherence to the standards. Issues with non-uniformity, modulation, fixed pattern damage and other distortions that can occur need to be identified and corrected. Accubeam handles the verification for you and produces the documentation that supports the 2D Code.
