Learn more about our metal bending capabilities, our manufacturing process, the benefits of metal bending operations, and real-world applications of components fabricated through metal bending.
What Is Custom Metal Bending?
Metal bending is a fabrication process used to shape sheet metal material by forming angles, curves, channels, and other shapes or profiles. Specialised equipment, such as a press brake, is used to create bends and shapes with great precision and repeatability. A piece of sheet metal is fed between an upper tool and lower die. The tooling moves downward, pressing on the sheet metal and forcing it into the desired shape. The lower die acts as a stop to keep the tooling from moving too far.
Press brakes can be operated manually or controlled with a CNC system. Traditional manual press brakes are adjusted by hand for each shape, and are often best-suited to small-scale production or highly intricate pieces.
CNC-controlled metal bending equipment uses a computerized system to adjust tooling and produce components with high accuracy and little variation from part to part. They facilitate higher-volume production and components that include multiple bends.
Materials Used
Accubeam works with a range of sheet metal materials that are used in different applications, including:
- Stainless Steel.
- Spring Steel.
- Total Steel.
- Aluminum.
- Titanium.
- Brass.
- Copper.
Our Manufacturing Process
Accubeam has decades of experience and state-of-the-art equipment to produce custom parts that meet your requirements. By keeping all operations in-house, from efficient laser cutting to bending, to CNC machining and finishing, we keep turnaround times short for small and large projects.
After cutting sheet material to size and shape, it is formed with a press brake, including our TrueBend 2100 system, creating the angles, shapes, and features within tolerance. Our manufacturing process is highly repeatable and fast for any custom component.
The Benefits of Custom Metal Bending
Instead of making existing parts and components work with your design, a custom metal bending project is made to fit your unique application. The result is better fit and function in the finished product. There are many benefits to custom metal bending, including:
- Cost-effective components. Using a press brake makes the bending process precise and repeatable so there are few errors, little reworking, and minimal waste. Precision press brake tooling helps ensure parts fit perfectly with your system or assembly.
- Extreme versatility. Metal bending is used to produce pieces with multiple bends, acute and obtuse angles, curves, and a variety of profiles for many different applications. It is also compatible with many types and thicknesses of metal.
- Precision. Press brake tooling and a computer-controlled TrueBend 2100 system are guided by pre-programmed work instructions to make identical features every cycle.
- Efficiency. Every step of the manufacturing process is completed in our facility, which eliminates time spent coordinating multiple vendors and transferring parts between them.
- Cost savings. Our streamlined process and one-stop manufacturing model helps to keep costs low. CNC cutting, forming, and machining use material efficiently, and reduce waste.
- Production flexibility and scalability. With our ability to handle prototypes, short runs, and high-volume production, our team can tackle any size job. We can also scale production to accommodate your changing needs.
- Durability. The metal bending and fabrication process often adds mechanical strength to workpieces, which contributes to the performance and resilience of the finished product also.
